Frank DeOrio discusses innovative leachate treatment in Waste360
Frank DeOrio, a manager in OBG’s environment brand, recently spoke with Waste360, a trade publication for the waste and recycling communities, about the current state of leachate treatment for landfill operators.
In this article, DeOrio discusses challenges in the treatment and disposal of leachate, including increasingly stricter effluent limits and changing waste composition that impacts leachate quality. He also talks about innovative and effective treatment approaches, which include a combination of biological and physical-chemical methods, and the importance of skilled professionals operating today’s modern, high-tech treatment systems.
“The sophistication and technological demanding aspects of a modern treatment system demands that professionals operate and maintain these significant investments. Today’s operators are highly trained and skilled and capable of meeting the demands of a challenging waste stream and the requirement to meet the strictest effluent limits.” Waste360

DeOrio also recently shared his expertise in solid waste engineering and management at the 2016 Global Waste Management Symposium. At this biannual conference, DeOrio presented lessons learned from recent OBG projects that brought two municipal leachate treatment plants into compliance with design flow and discharge requirements.
