Grant Assistance Programs

Larger communities have their size as an advantage, and often utilize the private bond market and their own revenues when undertaking projects. Smaller communities, however, generally must obtain financing to carry out all but very simple rehabilitation or new construction projects. Many state and federal agencies provide grants and loans for improvement projects. Because these types of projects can be quite expensive, many communities or special units of government, especially smaller communities, rely on grants and government subsidized loans to make these projects more affordable. Across the states, the programs available to smaller communities are very similar.
